sfu-ma-to
sfu-ma-to is an indie-rock band which was formed in København, Danmark in late 1996 by Lars Ro (guitar & vocals, ex-LAMPshADe;) and Kasper Andersen (drums, also of The Naked). After a few months, they were joined by Lars Sviestrup Hansen on guitar for about a year before he veered off stylistically towards surf music in the form of El Ray. Thus ended the 'Come Good Home' era.
Andre Chercka joined on bass for the duration of the 'Future Lies in Darkness' era, eventually being replaced by Carl Christian Tofte (of Obstinate Esther and Nasa Dude).
In late 1999, Ro moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where he briefly reformed the group as a duo with Carey Dall (guitar, brother of Dra City artist Cynthia Dall). After a few shows, Dall left and sfu-ma-to developed into a quartet with Ro, Bomba (drums), Bryan Goski (guitar), and Darren Hertell (bass), thus constituting the 'Shards of Ancient Suns' era. One of the songs on this record, "spinning 2000," received guest vocals from the soon-to-be critically acclaimed recording artist Catherine Feeny, whom Lars had played with previously in LAMPshADe;. This period culminated with a headlining show at San Francisco's Bottom of the Hill. "(Some of the) Bands that have played at the Bottom Of The Hill" .
Returning to Europe, the lineup shifted somewhat during the first years of the millennium, solidifying into Ro, Andreas Koch (bass) of The Naked / Ensemble Orlando and Gangerpilt, Marie Hansen (vocals) of Traening and The Bleeder Group, and Asger Hvid (drums) of Traening and Mit Ny Band. After recording The Las Zadan E.P., HVID was replaced by Robert SCHMIDT of Veronica Post, ex-Tothe International on the drums for a few shows & practices, eventually giving way to their French drummer, Nicolaj VOGLER. In its live incarnation, the band fluctuates from a full lineup (on Danish shores) to a solo affair, as was the case for sfu-ma-to's North American tours in 2004 and 2006.
20 April 2007 saw their first-ever, completely sold out concert, opening up for Thee_Silver_Mt._Zion_Memorial_Orchestra_%26_Tra-La-La_Band at Le Romandie in Lausanne, Switzerland.
