Release Name:
Daydream Generation 8
Year:
2010
Enlighten:

The first of three compilations this year, Daydream Generation 8 was released in February 2010. As well as the usual contributors from the Quixodelic Collective, Cozy Home Records, and the Elephant 6 Townhall, this compilation featured a large number of bands and songwriters from CLLCT. As a resource for putting together two discs of free music from unsigned and reasonably undiscovered artists, CLLCT is in a lovely, anarchic league of its own and approaching people to contribute was relatively straightforward knowing that we were already singing from the same free lo-fi hymn sheet.

Some of the artists you can find featured on DG8 include: FailedSitcom, Maureen Sill, Akryllic Love, Cootie Shot, Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), Chansons De Geste, Lenn9o9n, Bethesda Ann, Simon Piler, The Wheelies, Dead Canaries, James Redmond, Tuck Son, The Falling Floors, Impaled Peach, General Oglethorpe & The Panhandlers, Brendon Hertz and the Burnt Orange Crayons, Handwithlegs, Bespeckled Egg, and Becky N.

Zip files of both discs can be downloaded for free at http://daydreamgeneration.com

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 7
Year:
2009
Enlighten:

Daydream Generation 7 was the only DG compilation to be released in 2009 (August). Concentrating primarily on Quixodelic Records releases during the year, for a while it looked like the Daydream Generation was over. DG7 has all the trademarks of your typical DG compilation, lo-fi home folk-pop recordings sit happily side by side with psychedelic studio anthems to create a unique and pretty fucking lovely little collection of tunes.

Continuing with the two-disc free download format, this revised version was put together with a view to releasing all of the compilations on cassette later in 2010. Bands/artists you can expect to hear include: Warchalking, Akryllic Love, Frogville, James Redmond, Sucks To LaLa Land, White Guys Jumping, The Falling Floors, The Space Between Things, Cody High School, Invisible Mouth, Allan Douglas & The Tragedies, Chansons De Geste, Volcano, Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), The Real Burnouts, Simon Piler and the Atom Band, John Ludington, Becky N, The Wheelies, and Dead Canaries.

The original two-disc version is still available for free at http://daydreamgeneration.com

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 6
Year:
2008
Enlighten:

Released in November of 2008, Daydream Generation 6 (as its name would suggest) is the sixth in a series of free download compilations featuring various bands, songwriters, poets, daydreamers, and musical street urchins from around the world. Covering a range of genres including lo-fi, folk pop, psychedelic, and experimental, these compilations are a way of championing the unsigned little guys and girls of the musical world.

This revised version was put together with a view to releasing the compilations in a series of single cassettes later in 2010. Bands featured include: The Hoborchestra, Sucks To LaLa Land, Dead Canaries, The Falling Floors, Sauvie Island Moon Rocket Factory, Becky N, Simon Piler, Kaleidonauts, Uberfuzz, The Space Between Things, The Loaded Whispers, William Carpenter, The Revolutionary Patriots, James Redmond, Love Knot, CoDY High School, The Real Burnouts, Warchalking, The Great Valley, and Allan Douglas & The Tragedies

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 5
Year:
1998
Enlighten:

Daydream Generation 5 was released in July 2008. Unlike the four previous compilations, thanks to an elementary mathematical error and a seriously wasted sound engineer, this one ran over into three discs of free music. Despite the size of the finished project, at the time of release it was generally considered to be the most consistent and accomplished of the compilations to date, bursting with nearly four hours of great little songs and DIY anthems.

The revised 22-track version of DG5 was put together with a view to releasing the Daydream Generation compilations later in 2010 on cassette. Bands/artists featured include: The Real Burnouts, Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), Drum Machine Dating Service, Dead Canaries, Uberfuzz, Telescope Vehicle, Tofu Delux, The Hoborchestra, The Space Between Things, The People (Scotland), Michael Wookey, Becky N, The Revolutionary Patriots, Kaleidonauts, Sucks To LaLa Land, Warchalking, The Depravations, Rough Giraffe, The Red Plastic Buddha, The Orange Drop, Motherbird, and Jane Gilmore.

The original 3-disc free download is still available from Quixodelic Records at http://daydreamgeneration.com

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 4
Year:
1998
Enlighten:

The 4th Daydream Generation compilation released in March 2008.

Following on from the 3 compilations put together in 2007, DG4 is much of the same, still trying to mine musical gems from the furthest reaches of the internet and bringing them to you for free as digital downloads. The usual genres are well represented - folk-pop, psychedelic, lo-fi bedroom anthems, and ‘other’.

This revised 20-track version of DG4 was put together in March 2010 with a view to releasing all of the compilations on cassette later in the year. Artists featured include: Hopeful Monster, Rough Giraffe, Sirens, Handwithlegs, Broken Mono, Toy Soldiers, Cashew Cook, Cody High School, Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), Dead Canaries, Jane Gilmore, Warchalking, The Spitshine Kid, Uberfuzz, The Real Burnouts, Periwinkle Periscope, The Depravations, The Wheelies, Becky N, and Ghodbane.

The original 2-disc free download is still available from http://daydreamgeneration.com

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 3
Year:
1997
Enlighten:

The third DG compilation originally called "Daydream Revolution 3". After DG2 was released in July of 2007, there was a third disc of leftover material. These songs were incorporated into the Daydream Maze, part-puzzle/part-promotion for the various bands who had contributed to the two previous compilations, intending to incorporate videos, unreleased tracks etc. The Maze was an abject failure but rather than let the tracks go to waste, they were used as the start of Daydream Generation 3.

Several people's favourite of all the compilations so far, this reworked single disc version features Dylan Gough, Sgt Dunbar & The Hobo Banned, Rocketships of Love, The Invisible Mouth, The Real Burnouts, Rollercoaster (UK), Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), Dead Canaries, The Virgo 9, Warchalking, The Sinister Turns, Allan Douglas & The Tragedies, The Shivas, My Electric Love Affair, The People (Scotland), Becky N, River Speak English, Uberfuzz. The New Wave Dirt, and James Redmond.

The full two-disc free download is still available from the Quixodelic Record store at http://daydreamgeneration.com

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 2
Year:
1997
Enlighten:

The second Daydream Generation compilation released July 2007.

Continuing to champion the little guys and girls of the musical world, DG2 is much the same as its predecessor - two discs worth of the finest lo-fi, psychedelic, folk pop and experimental songs that the Daydream Generators could mine from the corners of the globe.

This is a shorter version put together for cassette release sometime in 2010 and features: Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), Sgt Dunbar & The Hobo Banned, Broken Mono, Dusty Charts, The Sinister Turns, James Redmond, Dylan Gough, Handwithlegs, Arthur Rules, Dead Canaries, Becky N, Uberfuzz, The PlaygrounD, Alright Lights, Bren, The Shivas, River Speak English, The Real Burnouts, Accidental Sons, and Rollercoaster (UK).

Both discs of DG2 are available to download for free from Quixodelic Records at http://daydreamgeneration.com

Release Name:
Daydream Generation 1
Year:
2007
Enlighten:

The first Daydream Generation compilation released March 2007.

On a rainy night in early 2007, some guy was daydreaming in his back garden while smoking a cigarette. He wondered what would happen if he invited all the great little bands and songwriters he knew to contribute to a two-disc freely downloadable compilation.

This is what happened.

This reworked 20 track version of Daydream Generation 1 (the first in a series designed for release on cassette later in 2010) features the following artists: Cashew Cook, Rollercoaster (UK), We Are The Martians, The PlaygrounD, Dylan Gough, The Drowned Committee, Alright Lights, The New Wave Dirt, The Sweetcorns, The Real Burnouts, Indian Givers, James Redmond, The People (Scotland), Jenny Penny, The Hoa Hoa’s, The Painted Shuts, Arthur Rules, Tofu Delux, Fig Mints (of Your Imagination), and The Amalfi Glow.

The original 2-disc version is still available for free download via the Quixodelic Records store at http://daydreamgeneration.com
