- Greg Kot, The Chicago Tribune
I write songs so I don't lose my mind, and in hopes to find it when thoughts and emotions are misplaced or hazy. Singing is cheaper than a shrink and better than Prozac. I'm so much more sane and grounded and stable than I was 2 years ago. If you met me then, I'm sorry. Come see me now. In terms of content - I'm not interested in politics very much or telling imaginary tales (although it happens but usually contains some autobiographical element). Other reasons I sing include my friends, my parents, a lot of the musicians on CLLCT and the many peeps I've played shows with. Also these records:
1. The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs
2. Harry Nilsson - A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night
3. Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over The Sea
4. eels - Electro-Shock Blues
5. The Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen
6. Liz Phair - Exile In Guyville
7. The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving
8. Paul Baribeau - Paul Baribeau
9. Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
10. Sparklehorse - It's A Wonderful Life
And some movies too:
1. Trust
2. Fearless
3. Magnolia
4. The Rapture
5. All The Real Girls
6. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
7. The Apartment
8. A History of Violence
9. Broadcast News
10. Manhattan

I always look for Eric James before I realise that it's the other way around.
I confuse myself sometimes a bit too easily. I guess I should have a moniker, but I don't want one unless I'm in a band. Meow!
someone where i work is named eric james
it's confusing as all get out
