i think this record came out sorta bipolar. which is what the track with the titular line in it ("goin' federal" - yes, an e-40 reference) is sorta about. e.b. white said it a lot more concisely: "I arise in the morning torn between a desire to improve the world and a desire to enjoy the world. This makes it hard to plan the day."
porches recorded this mostly live in the wonderful studio of the mystical and wise jalipaz - audioconfusion. it is in east mesa and is generally stocked with good music and delicious, melty pizza.
on this album, porches was ben horowitz (guitar and singing), jason p. woodbury (guitar and background singing)(of the great bands hands on fire, cardiac party, soft drink), zane gillum (bass)(also of hands on fire), ryan mcdowell (keyed instruments)(of the great band cardiac party), wasef elkharouf (drums)(of the wonderful whisperlights), and tobie milford (violin)(also of the whisperlights).
the art was done by patrick jilbert, who rules.
