down to sleep

'down to sleep' is the fifth shalloboi album. it was recorded from summer of 2005 through march of 2008. it is the first shalloboi album to feature real drums on nearly every song. it also highlights the strings on most tracks- tyler actually learned how to write sheet music for strings. the songs are all heavily drone-based, even more so than in the past, and heavily textured. the loops (where there are loops) border on the symphonic. there's a lot crammed into these songs. lush is a bit of an understatement. none of the effects heard on the instruments or voices on the record were achieved digitally or even with outboard effects processors or pedals (the exception being the reverse reverb used on the guitars)- all reverbs were recorded in an abandoned stairwell in tyler's apartment building and spaces in the congress theater which served as makeshift echo chambers. all other effects were achieved with miking techniques or doubling. while it doesn't sound like it at times it is an extremely organic record.
