Hey Rape Girl, Vol. 1
The second Marc With a C project I started was one called "Hey Rape Girl" in 1999. I didn't finish the first volume until early 2003, when I was holed up in my house with a broken heater, a guitar, Jessica Frick's 4 track and microphones, and nothing to eat at all. Except for pot brownies. This posed a problem as I was "on the wagon" at the time, but they were a birthday present, and I needed sustenance.
The songs were a semi-fictitious story about a girl that sought out fantasy rape for her own amusement. She mostly preferred the company of musicians. There were bits based on reality, sure... but not too much was pulled from the life of any one person in particular.
The narrative voice shifts between that of an onlooker, the musician that becomes the apple of her eye, and the girl herself: Molly. The initial recordings were intended to toy with frequencies that would induce nausea. For this, the EP would need to be mixed in stereo. Due to an ear injury, I couldn't make that a reality, and I've always regretted it. The tapes have long since disappeared, so what you hear is the finished product. For better or worse.
This EP isn't for everyone, and I'm perfectly comfortable with that fact. As a matter of fact, certain members of my family refused to talk to me for months after the EP's initial release. One has to keep the following in mind: absolutely *nothing* non-consensual happens to any person in the story, songs or subjects. Also? I didn't invent it, but it does occur. I'd just never really heard anyone write about it, and I decided to make it my job.
I have no plans to ever do a second volume or expound on the initial ideas. It is what it is, and I'm still very proud of it... even when it makes me cringe sometimes.
