Human Slushy
2002
Ah, my first proper album. Joe Panton produced it. He also played all of the bass and drums. To these ears, it sounds more like his album than mine. I sang and played guitar. Jessica Frick sang some on "Groupie Sex".
This was a collection of the twelve songs I liked singing live the most at the time. I hadn't really figured out how to translate the live show to records, and it's painfully obvious here. I'm embarrassed by much of my songwriting here, as well as how many of these songs were (quite obviously) out of my vocal range.
Regardless, this was the album that got me some notice. It's the one that got me nominated for one of those short lived Orlando Music Awards. It's the record that spawned all the airplay for "Why Don't Girls Like Me?". It's the album that had a major label take notice of me for approximately six minutes. And on most days... I wish I could completely erase it and re-record it from the ground up. I think many people feel that way about their early work.
Now, sure. Before this album, there were numerous demos passed around at shows for a few years. Maybe one day I'll track those things down and give them some kind of life again... but I doubt I'd be any more proud of them either.
This is early Marc With a C. It's a bunch of silly pop songs polished within an inch of their lives. Take it for what it is, eh?
