NOTES
i feel like this record best represents what I hear in my head. the beauty, the chaos, the darkness, the indecision. instrumentals are my favorite recordings to make.
this is the first official Garden on a Trampoline record. GOAT is basically the artist formerly known as 'James Eric' and this is one of my many side projects. it's an instrumental endeavor, but there will eventually be a nicely produced 'band' record this summer. however, "Life of the Mind" best represents me because I am more drawn to music without words, especially during the winter season. if you dig this, let me know, because I plan to make a couple more records like this as the year goes on. all of these songs are written by me, late at night using headphones, recorded in my bedroom studio. most of these sounds are improvised/created with the help of my old Casio, fancy Yahama keyboard, Boss Loop Station, 5-string bass, Alvarez acoustic, and a Fender Jaguar. here's some stuff i borrowed.
SAMPLES
"The Night Is Awake" contains live violin by Chai Wolfman
"I Can't Sleep So I Dream Of You" contains live trumpet performed by Tim Bales
"I Can't Sleep So I Dream Of You" contains a noise sample of "Hall of the Dead" by Isis
"Not Young, But Restless" is a re-imagining of the soap opera theme song "Young and the Restless"
"The Reverse" contains dialogue from 'John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness'
"Dreams are Real Good" contains a sample of "Good Old Desk" by Harry Nilsson and some weird vinyl record about hypnosis that I found at the 365 Day Project
"The Next Day Looks Brighter Than The Last" is inspired by Harold Budd & Robert Fripp

I love you Fourpaws, and that's no bull, fellow bull. Thanks to NbN, and of course, Matt Patterson for their equally kind comments. It truly means a lot to me that people are behind this record, because I actually like recording this music more than the indie rock stuff. Although, my indie rock has gotten better as well:

Oodles of gratitude, guys!
wow james...finally am listening to this and it is really great! nice job <3<3<3
ps--oh yeah, btw i am a taurus too (may 5th)...i read some comments on another one of your release pages...anyways, bulls ftw or something :P
I gotta say man, excellent work.
And in addition to "Next Day" being a bit of modern Fripp, I have to say that the guitar solo at the end of "Bed" is everything that was great about Fripp's more melodic soloing, going back to 80's Crimson and Frippertronics.
This is stunning beyond words! Good to see inspirations from Aphex and Fripp, you should check out 'Subheim' and 'Mike Sheridan' oh and 'Trentmoller' :D

I haven't finished this yet, but it's wonderful so far.
Kind of reminds me a little of Belle Orchestra in parts (might be the trumpet on I Can't Sleep So I Dream Of You).
this has carried me softly to sleep two nights in a row now. great, great, great stuff. VIVA La James!
