Life's So Hard
2006
"Life's So Hard" was a weird one. It was an album I really wanted to make, but it was pretty misunderstood. I was trying to come up with more songs that would fit into the live shows, but I also found myself writing from the perspectives of others. Not least of which was a grouchy old man griping about "those damned kids". Sometimes I just made up a funny story and went with it.
It probably isn't terribly obvious, but this album was actually pretty labored over. Broke a few four-tracks in the process.
Also, it's helpful to note that the last four songs were simply re-recordings of stray songs that hadn't made it to record yet. I sometimes wish that all of the songs from the "If I Had A Dealer" EP had been on this release as well. Actually... I really wish that.
I got slaughtered by more than one critic over this record. It was very strange, because most of what I was being accused of was the subtext and irony. Meh, critics. Hope I never become one.
Wink.
