A collection of all my cover songs

1. Holland, 1945 (Neutral Milk Hotel) - The first song I ever recorded that garnered me praise. If no one liked this, I probably wouldn't be making music today. Maybe.

2. Beautiful Stranger (Madonna) - Bad production, on the soundtrack for a bad movie, but this song is actually pretty good. Certainly the highpoint of Madonna's recent career, until she did Hung Up.

3. Big Me (Foo Fighters) - It's hard to think of this as a Foo Fighters song. It feels more like an alternate universe Foo Fighters, where instead of hard rock, they made British Invasion-esque 60's pop.

4. Brand New Key (Melanie Safka) - First time I heard this in Boogie Nights I fell in love with it. I'm pretty proud of my version, actually.

5. Fight Song (Marilyn Manson) - This is the song that got the attention of James Eric, one of the only reasons I make music at all.

6. I'm On Fire (Bruce Springsteen) - This is the only song from Born in the USA that I really like. The rest are pretty shite.

7. Lousy Weekend (Daniel Johnston) - My favorite Daniel Johnstonsong. Daniel Johnston's music is the reason I started to record.I figured, if people listen to his stuff and enjoy it, sound quality and musical talent isn't all that people ;look for, so what the fuck I should give it a shot.

8. Two Hearts (Bruce Springsteen) - I found the part of the song I liked the best and I looped it.

9. One Headlight (The Wallflowers) - This is an abandoned attempt for the Roarin' 90's compilation. The song is just too damned long and has too little rising action for me, with my limited guitar skills, to do anything with it.

10. Sisters of Mercy (Leonard Cohen) - In case you haven't figured out by now, I'm a big fan of the "micro-cover", where you only cover one verse. I'm a fan of short songs in general, and some songs only need one verse to get their ideas, musically and lyrically, across. I also used to be a fan of speeding up my covers so you couldn't tell it was me singing.

11. Teachers (Leonard Cohen) - Talk about Wacky. I ran my vocals through a Korg Multi-Effects pedal while recording the vocals. It's got pitch shifting, it's got reverbial attributes, it's got multiple delays, it's got a bit of chorus, I think, it's got everything! Wacky!

12. A Milli (Lil 'Wayne) - I am OBSESSED with this song. The part I got hooked on was the fact that the beat was made entirely of one vocal sample ("A Milli, A Milli, A Milli, A Mil, A Mil") and some very sparse 808, yet it was the most compelling thing I ever heard. I figure, I can't beat that, I might as well try to do it faster. Cuz faster = better, right? Of course it does.

More to come!

"Brand New Key" and "Fight Song" are highlights, for sure. I'm a closet Manson fanatic. Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood are really good records.

I am finally enjoying listening to Springsteen a lot these days. Good choices here.

i am pleasantly surprised by the brand new key cover. i didn't think it could sound remotely good coming from someone who wasn't a squeaky voiced girl.
