Mark Zuckerberg's gold chain, which he wore to his 40th birthday celebration, sold at auction Dec. 11 for $40,500.

Except the chain isn't even solid gold! It's gold-plated.

A man worth more than $200 billion is wearing a gold-plated necklace?

Still, the necklace sold for nearly 10 times its estimated value of $425.

The chain was part of a charity auction run by Zuckerberg's sister on Tiltify, a website used for fundraising, and came with a certificate of authenticity from Zuckerberg.

The winner chose to remain anonymous, but used the username "near."

A few interesting Zuckerberg items have been sold publicly in recent years, most notably his childhood baseball card, which his camp counselor sold in 2022 for $105,000.
