There are a few standard inscriptions collectors have come to expect from athletes: “HOF,” "MVP," “Best Wishes” and other lists of career achievements.
But one pair of sneakers, worn by Michael Jordan and attributed to a 1990 game, has a decidedly different tone.
“To Bob Get a Job.”

The Bob in question is Robert Scarpetti, a former Chicago police detective, who worked as part of Jordan’s security detail from his rookie season in 1984-85 to 1995.
The sneakers, which first sold in 2020 at Heritage for $21,000, were one of many pieces of memorabilia given to Scarpetti over the years. Also sold in 2020 from the Scarpetti Collection at Heritage was a Jordan jersey and trunks from the 1994 Scottie Pippen All-Star Classic ($66,000) and Jordan’s sneakers from the 1993 Eastern Conference finals ($66,000).
Scarpetti even made an appearance in “The Last Dance” documentary series.
Goldin is now selling the uniquely inscribed sneakers, which come with a COA from MEARS as well as a letter from PSA/DNA authenticating the signature.
There is no photo-match to a specific game.
With more than three weeks remaining in the auction, bidding has reached $4,270, with buyer’s premium.
