Searches for Team USA climbed 80% on site during Summer Games

Snoop Dogg's smoky Olympic rings were the most collectible pin in Paris.

The Summer Olympic Games spurred interest in a number of hot collectibles on eBay, starting with the viral Snoop Dogg pin, which was searched nearly 140 times per hour July 30 and 31, according to data provided by eBay.

Searches for “Team USA” on the platform were up over 80% on Aug. 11 (day of the closing ceremony) compared to July 26 (day of Opening Ceremonies).

One of the most memorable moments from the Games in Paris, Steph Curry’s historic finish in Team USA’s gold-medal victory over France, was a major catalyst for collectors. Searches for Curry were up nearly 150% compared to the week prior. The impact of the iconic moment was also seen in the record sales numbers reported for a Topps NOW card featuring Curry, LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

As the Olympics brought athletes from outside the major U.S. sports to the limelight, searches for the biggest stars exploded. After securing the gold medal in a match against Carlos Alcaraz, searches for “Novak Djokovic” surged 450% compared to the week prior.

Simone Biles’ all-around gymnastics gold medal led to similar demand, as global searches were up more than 140% compared to the week prior.

U.S. Women's Rugby star Ilona Maher saw multiple of her cards from the 2024 Topps Chrome Olympic set, including two 1-of-1 Superfractors, sell for more than $1,000.
