A Tesla Cyberbeast, one of the EV manufacturer’s high-end Foundation Series, sold for $262,500 at RM Sotheby’s on Tuesday afternoon, marking the first public sale of the Cyberbeast variant.

Due to delays in the Cybertruck’s mass production, many owners have seized the opportunity to profit. In March 2024, a Dallas Porsche dealer paid $244,500 for an early model, a $130,000 mark-up over sticker price.

Tesla has attempted to stymie the resale market, however. The company is rumored to be utilizing tactics ranging from black-listing sellers from future Tesla purchases, to adding an "anti-flipping" clause into the vehicle's official terms and conditions. (That clause asserts the right to “seek injunctive relief to prevent the transfer of title of the vehicle, or demand liquidated damages ... in the amount of $50,000 or the value received as consideration for the sale or transfer, whichever is greater.”)

The Cyberbeast model retails for $120,000, approximately $20,000 more than the standard model, and boasts 834 horsepower and a 2.6 second 0-to-60-mph time.

Sotheby’s offered the vehicle, which displayed just 50 miles on its odometer from its original and sole owner, without reserve — though bidding quickly blew by the $120,000 sticker price, nearly doubling it within a few days.
