If you think beer is too expensive at your local bar or favorite team’s ballpark, this should help put things in perspective.
A Chief Oshkosh Crowntainer sold for a record $111,150 last month at Morean Auctions, the highest price paid in the history of brewery advertising.
The can is the only known example and one of the most coveted pieces in the world of beer collecting, according to the auction house.
In addition to its rarity, its provenance tracing back to one of the most impressive collections ever assembled, known as the Bob McCoy Crowntainer Collection, boosted its price further.
It dates back to the early 1950s.
"It was both thrilling and validating to see the price surpass $100,000,” a Morean spokesperson said in a statement. “These old beer cans were never meant to be collectibles. They were designed to be disposed of, which makes them incredibly rare.
"Collectors have had a deep passion for them since the 1970s, and it's gratifying to see them gain the recognition they truly deserve."
The previous record of $93,600 for a Brown Derby beer can was also set by Morean.
