One of the last jerseys worn by Wayne Gretzky in his NHL career has hit the auction block at Heritage, carrying a pre-sale estimate of $500,000.

The Rangers sweater is photo-matched to four games from the 1998-99 NHL season, including the Jan. 10, 1999, game in which Gretzky scored his 892nd goal.

Heritage is selling the jersey as part of its “The March to Greatness Game Worn Hockey Catalog Auction,” in partnership with MeiGray, which includes jerseys from Alex Ovechkin, who is rapidly closing in on Gretzky’s career mark of 894 goals.

Gretzky, much like Michael Jordan late in his career, began wearing more and more jerseys as the years went on, culminating in his final NHL game, during which he wore four jerseys (one during warm-ups and one for each period).

One of the jerseys he wore in the final game of his career, photo-matched to his final career point, sold for more than $715,000.

In 2022, Gretzky’s final Edmonton Oilers jersey sold for $1.45 million — a record for any NHL jersey.
