After a Dec. 27 victory over the Brooklyn Nets, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama walked over to a young fan holding a sign that read, “Victor Wembanyama will you swap jersey with me?” and did just that.

Less than two months later, the jersey sold for $73,200 at Goldin Auctions on Saturday night. There were a total of 25 bids in the auction.

Video of the “best jersey swap ever,” as the Spurs' X account called it, went viral, with more than 4 million views on the social platform.

This isn’t the first time Wembanyama swapped jerseys with a young fan, having previously done the same with a kid who asked for an autograph after a game in November.

As one of the NBA’s most hyped young stars, Wembanyama’s memorabilia has sold for noteworthy sums at auction in recent years. One of the jerseys he wore during his NBA debut sold for more than $760,000 at Sotheby’s in November 2023.

Wembanyama also set a new record for his highest public sale of a card Saturday night at Goldin. His 2023-24 Panini Prizm Nebula Choice Prizm No. 136 sold for $860,100.

The record price comes just two days after the Spurs announced [Wembanyama would miss the rest of the season[(https://www.cllct.com/sports-collectibles/memorabilia/victor-wembanyama-out-for-season-what-is-impact-to-his-collectibles-market) with a blood clot in his shoulder.
