The Washington Nationals announced a promotion Monday that will leapfrog Nationals Park to the cheapest beer in baseball.

For the second half of the season, the team will offer a $5 beer promotion whereby anyone who buy seats to any game for the rest of the season has the right to get "unlimited" beers at that price.

The beers are 25 ounces, making the .20 cents per ounce price the lowest in baseball. The typical ballpark offering value beer prices has a $5 option, but that's usually for 12 ounces. The Nationals note in their promotion that the price represents a 67 percent discount over their usual price.

There is a catch, however. Fans have to buy the $5 for 25-ounce beer tickets by Thursday, when the promotion expires.

For those who get in on it, the $5 beer will be connected to the barcode on their ticket. Although the beer will be available until the eighth inning, and the price is guaranteed to stay at $5, a fan can only buy two at a time.

The eligible beers are cans of Budweiser, Bud Light and Michelob Ultra.

The cheapest beer in Major League Baseball history was the disaster known as Cleveland's 10-Cent Beer Night, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last month. Cleveland served unlimited beer at 10 cents during that game, which resulted in utter chaos. Factoring for inflation, those eight ounce beers were 65 cents in today's dollars, making it the modern equivalent of eight cents an ounce.
