Spurs point guard Chris Paul wanted Redick to know, win or lose, Paul and Spurs phenom Victor Wembanyama would be gifting their game-worn jerseys to Redick's sons, Knox and Kai.
Redick, like thousands of others in Los Angeles, lost his home in the fires ravaging the city. Included in that loss, was the budding collection of basketball memorabilia Knox and Kai cherished.
"I ran a podcast out of my home for two years," Redick told reporters after the game. "All the players would come through, and they'd get either a jersey or a card signed. And they had a collection of jerseys and cards/ ... And they lost all that. It was nice of (Paul and Wembanyama to do it."
Following San Antonio's 126-102 victory at Crypto.com Arena, Paul and Wembanyama sought out Redick and his sons, took off their jerseys and signed them for the young boys, before posing for a photo.
Knox and Kai each now have two jerseys in their new collection, as Lakers guard Austin Reaves also gifted the pair each a jersey.
"You play a lot of years in this league and some guys are just teammates," Paul told reporters. "But JJ is part of my family. So him, his wife, those kids Knox and Kai. I know a lot of people lost family members, homes. ... It just hit different when people are close to you."
