Here’s what you need to know before you buy.
2024 Topps Chrome Baseball
Release date: Wednesday
Overview: Topps Chrome remains one of the most important releases in trading cards, and 2024 is no different. The design for Topps Series 1 was well-received earlier this year, and the neon outline might be even better when paired with a chrome finish.
Collectors should remember to save cards of players that could be in the MVP race down the stretch with the MVP Buyback for 2024 Topps Chrome Baseball returning. Collectors will be able to trade in cards of the MVP winners in each league for store credit starting in November.
Inserts: The popular Radiating Rookies return for another year as an exclusive to Hobby SKUs. New for 2024 is the Award Winners set, which features six cards of the players who won the MVP, Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards last season. These are numbered to just 23 and feature 1/1 Superfractors.
Also new are the Summertime in the Park, Fanatical and Chrome All-Etch inserts. Announced Tuesday, the all-new Helix inserts are considered SSPs and feature a similar design to Panini’s ultra-popular Color Blast inserts.
Refractors and variations: Base Set Image Variations return with the all-new Black Speckle Refractor /10. Base set parallels include a lineup of Hobby SKU-exclusive refractors such as Green Wave /99, Blue Wave /75, Gold Wave /50, Orange Wave /25, Black /10 and Red Wave /5.
Autos and relics: Autographs are a major draw for Topps Chrome, and 2024 features a large checklist of ink. New autograph sets include On The Spot Die-Cut Autographs and Seamhead Signatures, while Chrome Legend Autographs are exclusive to the Breaker Delight SKU.
Hobby configuration: 24 packs per box, four cards per pack
Box break: One chrome autograph, on average
Secondary market value: $224.95 (subject to change)
