Pokémon’s latest expansion set, Scarlet & Violet — Surging Sparks, was announced Thursday, with a release date scheduled for Nov. 8.
With a 250-card set, on the larger side for the TCG, Surging Sparks will include New Tera Pokémon, as well as the return of powerful ACE SPEC Trainer and Energy cards first introduced in 2012.
The set will be available in booster packs, Elite Trainer Boxes and special collections from the Pokémon Center and a select group of retailers that have yet to be announced.
One day prior to the release of the tabletop version, digital gameplay will be made available through the Pokémon TCG Live app.
So far, the announcement has been well-received on social media, with popular Pokémon content creator Leonhart, posting on Twitter: “This has gotta be one of the best #PokemonTCG pack arts in a long time…”
In a release Thursday morning, The Pokémon Company listed noteworthy cards from the expansion to expect:
- Eight ACE SPEC cards
- Eight Stellar Tera Pokémon ex and nine Tera Pokémon ex
- 23 illustration rare Pokémon
- 11 special illustration rare Pokémon and Supporter cards
- Six hyper rare gold etched cards
Pokémon has consistently dominated sales among its category, placing it as the largest media franchise ahead of Mickey Mouse and Friends, Winnie the Pooh, Star Wars and Disney Princess.
In its latest report, the company posted $1.9 billion in revenue between March 2023 and February 2024, a 15% rise over the previous year.
