An Oregon woman has been arrested in a sting operation after allegedly stealing a backpack containing nearly $50,000 worth of trading cards and jewelry.

The backpack was stolen Sunday afternoon on the MAX train in Oregon, after the victim accidentally dropped his backpack as he got on the train, according to a Beaverton Police release.

After the victim reported the theft, the Beaverton Police was able to utilize surveillance video of the incident to identify the suspect as Dawn Castro, 34, of Beaverton, Oregon.

Castro picked up the backpack, which held rare cards of Mickey Mantle, Joe Montana, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, in addition to jewelry, which she attempted to pawn at a local pawn shop, keeping “the more valuable” sports cards.

The police found the stolen items on Facebook Marketplace, setting up a sting operation under the guise of purchasing the cards, which ultimately resulted in Castro’s arrest Monday afternoon.

Detectives recovered not only the stolen trading cards, but also the jewelry at the pawn shop.

Castro is being charged with aggravated theft in the first degree, according to the Beaverton Police.
