Topps gave the collecting community a first look Monday at what many expect to be one of the top chases from the upcoming 2024 Topps Update Baseball release — and it features arguably the two best players in baseball.
In addition to patches at the center, the card features dual autographs from Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge as they represent the National League and American League at the 2024 All-Star Game.
All-Star Game-related cards are a major piece of Topps Update sets, and the 2024 release is no different.
Topps has yet to announce what subset the card appears in, though the current checklist for 2024 Topps Update does show a set titled “All-Star Stitch Dual Autograph Cards,” which could be a fit.
Should the Ohtani and Judge dual autograph card fall in that set, collectors could expect similar cards for players such as Gunnar Henderson, Bobby Witt Jr., Juan Soto, Adley Rutschman and Paul Skenes.
According to the supplied odds, All-Star Stitch Dual Autograph Cards will fall once in every 33,927 hobby box packs and once in every 116,673 value box packs.
Despite receiving positive feedback from collectors on the design of the card, a number of hobbyists expressed frustration that the relic is event-worn, rather than game-worn, and the autographs appear to be applied with stickers instead of on-card.
Expected to release Oct. 16, Topps Update Baseball completes the lineup of flagship paper releases following Series 1 and Series 2 earlier this year.
