One of the rarest sealed boxes in all of trading cards, a 1993 Magic: The Gathering Arabian Nights sealed booster box, hit the auction block Friday afternoon and sold for $212,500 at Heritage.

The sale marks just the second time in public auction records that a sealed booster box of the historic set has sold, with the first example selling in February for the same price.

Arabian Nights is the first expansion set ever produced for the Magic: The Gathering trading card game and represents what many consider to be a turning point in the game’s history, as its cards were unusually powerful in gameplay at the time of its release.

Additionally, the set was produced in limited quantities, which has resulted in many of its cards holding extremely high values. The most expensive sale from the set belongs to the Shahrazard U2 W card, which sold for more than $17,000 in a 2021 auction.

There have been dozens of sales exceeding $5,000 for various cards from the set.

This sale is tied along with the sole other booster box sale for the seventh-most expensive Magic card or box in history, according to CardLadder, which includes two private sales among the top five.

Among sealed TCG booster boxes, only the 1999 Pokémon 1st Edition base set has sold for more.
