A Michael Jordan-autographed 1984 Star card, graded BGS 8.5/Auto 9, sold for $312,000 at SCP Auctions, an all-time record for any signed Star Jordan.
Prices for the 1984 Star Jordan card, which is the subject of contentious debate among hobbyists — with respect to its rookie card status (or lack thereof) — have risen dramatically in recent months.
Despite prices regressing over the last month, the scarcity of Jordan’s signature has helped provide resistance to the decline.
Prior to the sale, the record for a signed Star Jordan was $196,420, paid in November for a copy graded BGS 8.5/Auto 9.
While the total population of signed 1984 Star Jordan cards in Beckett slabs is unclear, PSA has graded a mere dozen copies.

The total graded population between the two companies, both signed and unsigned, numbers just 1,600.
Compared to the more widely-accepted 1986 Fleer Jordan rookie card, which has been graded more than 46,300 times across all authentication companies, the Star card is far more scarce.
The record price paid for a signed 1986 Fleer Jordan is $205,000, paid in March of this year.
