Mecole Hardman’s Super Bowl LVIII jersey, worn during his game-winning overtime touchdown catch for the Kansas City Chiefs, sold for $63,000 Thursday night at Fanatics Collect.
With Kansas City trailing 22-19 against the San Francisco 49ers, Patrick Mahomes connected with Hardman in the flat for a 3-yard touchdown, lifting the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl victory in five seasons.
"I ain't gonna lie, I caught that pass at the end, and I just kind of blacked out,” Hardman told CBS. “I didn't know what was going on until I saw Patrick running at me, and then I was like, 'Oh we just won. OK, let's go celebrate.'"
The jersey is signed by Hardman and inscribed with various phrases including "Chiefs Kingdom," "Dream Big" and "SB 58 GW OT TD."
Fanatics Collect, which rebranded PWCC’s platform earlier this year, is largely focused on cards — especially with respect to the high end of the market. This sale marks the most expensive game-worn jersey ever sold on the platform, and, given Fanatics’ close ties with teams and athletes across sports, could spell the beginning of a new category of focus.
For Hardman, now in his sixth NFL season, the play is undoubtedly the highlight of his career.
Last season, Hardman began the year with the New York Jets, signing with Gang Green in free agency after spending his first four seasons in Kansas City. After an uneventful start to the season, which included just one catch in five games, New York traded Hardman back to the Chiefs, where he then pulled off his Super Bowl heroics.
So far in 2024, he has played in 10 games for the Chiefs, starting in none of them and has not caught a single touchdown.
The jersey marks the most expensive sale of any solo Hardman item. The previous record came in 2022, when his 2019 Contenders Superfractor auto 1/1 sold for just $1,275.
