eBay extended its reach into the high-end luxury world Tuesday with the expansion of its consignment service to categories such as watches, jewelry and footwear.
The white glove service, which first launched in 2023 for handbags, currently accepts brands such as CHANEL, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, IPPOLITA, Versace and more. The marketplace seeks to encourage more high-end sellers to utilize its platform through a variety of offerings, including a dedicated team to photograph, research, price and list items for the consignor.
eBay has partnered with luxury goods seller Linda’s Stuff, an eBay store with consignment experience and a warehouse for handling the high-priced items.
For its services, eBay is charging fees from 40% (less than $1000), 25% ($1,000-$4,999) and 20% for $5,000 and up. Any items sold via consignment for less than $300 will carry a $15 administrative fee.
This is a significant mark-up from the 15% (less than $5,000) and 9% ($5,000 and up) charged for typical jewelry and watches on the platform.
Items consigned through the service are inspected by Linda's Stuff, with eligible items passing through eBay's Authenticity Guarantee (over $200 for apparel, over $500 for bags, wallets, and accessories, over $75 for footwear, over $500 for jewelry and over $5,000 for watches).
The service is currently limited to domestic sellers, and items will be listed for a full year before being shipped back to the consignor in the event they go unsold.
