To mark Klay Thompson’s return to the Bay Area on Tuesday night when his Dallas Mavericks took on the Warriors, Golden State handed out captain’s hats to all 18,064 fans in attendance.
It didn’t take long for the hats to hit the secondary market. In fact, prior to the game’s tip-off, eBay already had one listed for $139.88.
In the days since, demand for the hats have proven strong.
According to Terrapeak, eBay’s product research tool, 162 hats had sold on eBay as of Friday morning for an average price of $140.13. The most expensive sale to date was $279.99 and the hats were sold by more than 50 different sellers.
Active listings numbered 44 at the time of this story, with an average listing price of $162.27.
Earlier this year, the Dodgers gave away bobbleheads of Shohei Ohtani and his dog, Decoy, including a limited number of rare gold variants. This week, a gold bobblehead from the giveaway sold for more than $600 on eBay.
