Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak built 200 Apple-1 computers in 1976 during the genesis of the pioneering tech company.
Inspired by hours spent at meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club in Palo Alto, Calif., Wozniak sold his HP-65 calculator and Jobs sold his van to raise around $1,300 in order to begin assembling the first boards of what would eventually become the Apple-1 in Jobs’ bedroom.
Now considered a key artifact of the tech world, one of the original 200 — less than 100 of which are verified to still exist — sold Thursday night at RR Auctions for $375,000.
The Apple-1 which sold at RR is known as the Bayville model and is fully operational, including a serial number believed to be handwritten by Jobs.
In September 2024, an Apple-1 said to be taken directly from Jobs’ desk sold for $845,000 — a record for any version of the computer.
