The Washington Capitals honored Alexander Ovechkin with a pregame ceremony for the ages Thursday night in Washington, celebrating his record-breaking 895th goal, which placed him ahead of Wayne Gretzky as the NHL’s all-time leading goal-scorer.
On his way into the arena, Ovechkin donned a custom suit jacket by Tom Barnett featuring pictures of all 895 goal pucks in the interior liner, “GR895” embroidered inside the collar and even pieces of jersey sewn into each sleeve.
Along with his wife, Nastya, two sons Sergei and Ilya, and mother, Tatyana, Ovechkin was joined by Capitals owner Ted Leonsis on the ice ahead of the game.

After a video replayed the iconic goal, Ovechkin was presented with multiple gifts, including an engraved gold stick from the organization — the Capitals included two mini versions for his sons.
Detroit-based artist TYP created a six-foot, 80-pound sculpture of Ovechkin, including game-used sticks and casts of his skates, which were also presented to the future Hall of Famer.
To further celebrate Ovechkin’s historic milestone, the Capitals are offering a series of replica hockey sticks engraved with the number 895.
A full-size Bronze hockey stick replica autographed by Ovechkin, limited to just eight copies, is available for $27,999.99 while a non-autographed version, also limited to just eight copies, is available for $24,999.99.
Mini versions of each, both autographed and non-autographed, are also available.
