Trading card app CollX announced a $10 million Series A fund raise Thursday led by MLB star Bobby Witt Jr. and venture firms Brand Foundry and 114 Ventures.

CollX, an app that allows users to take photos of cards and find their value as well as engage in its marketplace, was founded in 2022 and has since amassed more than 500 million cards added to users collections. Since introducing its marketplace feature in 2023, the company says it has grown to 30,000 sellers and 20,000 buyers on the platform.

Witt Jr. is one of the MLB’s most well-known card collectors, having previously partnered with PSA to create “game-used” cards by carrying them in his pockets during a game. He also has an Instagram account devoted to his cards, which has more than 15,000 followers.

“I'm a lifelong collector, and wish I'd had CollX as a kid,” Bobby Witt Jr. said in a statement.

“While I love all our investors, I’m extra fired up to have Bobby Witt Jr. join the company as an investor and advisor,” Collx co-founder and CEO Ted Mann said in a statement. “It’s not just that Bobby is an avid collector; he’s the most creative and influential thought leader in the hobby”

In 2023, CollX raised $5.5 million in a seed round led by Brand Foundry.

Nat Turner, CEO of PSA parent company Collectors, was an Angel investor in the company, along with DJ Skee, Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman and Philadelphia 76ers owner David Adelman.

The company says it has more than 3 million users, with the majority of its revenue coming through its paid subscription offering for power-users and Card Dealer Pro, which is used by card stores and dealers to scan cards and handle inventory in bulk.

The company says it intends to use the capital to push forward on its marketplace and subscription businesses.

Its iOS app has more than 25,000 ratings and a 4.5 star rating, currently No. 39 in the Apple app store in the sports category.
