Collectible toy brand ghostwrite will release a set of toys celebrating the WNBA 2024 season in the next few weeks, building on the company's recently announced partnerships with the WNBA, NBA and both leagues' players associations.
The company, which was founded by StockX co-founder Josh Luber earlier this year, has launched to early success utilizing hyper-limited drops and blind dutch auctions aimed to maximize collectibility and resale value.
In November, its release of “Game Ball,” a basketball-themed toy produced in partnership with the NBA, sold for a clearing price of $503 for 60 limited-edition “ghosts.”
“We designed our toys — we call them ‘ghosts’ — to be vehicles for storytelling. Ghosts tell stories, and when it comes to current culture, there is no greater source of indelible, iconic stories than the NBA and WNBA,” Luber said in a statement.
The WNBA release will include 15 different players, including Caitlin Clark, A’ja Wilson, Angel Reese and Sabrina Ionescu, along with one ghost for celebrity fan Aubrey Plaza.
The WNBA ghosts will be released in the form of blind boxes, with collectors bidding for a box with an unknown toy from the set inside. Included will be parallels such as a Gold /10 and Fire 1/1 for players. There will be 800 ghosts of the base design per player.
