Less than 24 hours after Juan Soto agreed to a 15-year, $765 million contract with the New York Mets — the richest deal in the history of sports — Topps announced the 26-year-old star’s first Mets card on social media.
Released as a Topps NOW card priced at $11.99 and available until Thursday, a few lucky collectors will receive limited-edition autographed versions of the card, including a 1/1 and cards limited to five and 10 copies, respectively.
The inscription on one of the cards teased by Topps reads, “my first Mets auto.”
Topps has found great success incorporating randomized chase cards into its Topps NOW releases this year, most notably with the Olympic triple auto 1/1 card featuring LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant which. Although that card has yet to be pulled months since its release, it sparked record-breaking sales.
Similar chase cards for Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman have become hot commodities in the hobby in recent months.
To date, the most expensive Juan Soto card ever sold was the $300,000 private sale of his 2016 Bowman Chrome Prospects autographs orange refractor jersey number /25 in February 2022.
