Two of the most popular sports card-related items this holiday season are a pair of advent calendars that are selling for shocking prices on the secondary market.
Released at the end of November, the 2024 Topps Baseball Holiday Advent Calendar and the 2024 Panini Absolute Football Kaboom! Countdown Calendar both follow the traditional advent calendar concept, with packs of cards included as part of a countdown through the month of December.
Though the concepts are typical, the prices for both products have become anything but in recent days.
Originally retailing for $39.99, the Topps advent calendar, which includes 20 five-card packs, one three-card evergreen pack, two single-card foil buyback card packs and one original buyback pack, has been flipped on eBay for as much as $150, according to data tool Terapeak.
Eight-box cases of the calendars, which originally retailed directly from Topps for $319.99, have been sold for as much as $769.99.
According to Topps, the calendars feature a 200-card base checklist as well as 25-card insert sets titled “Making the Nice List” and “Evergreen.” There are also chances for relics and autographs.
Interest in Panini’s calendar has also been high with single calendars fetching nearly $150 on eBay after retailing for $99.95 directly from Panini and $89.97 from Walmart.
Each Panini calendar features 24 three-card packs. Calendars purchased directly from the manufacturer feature an online exclusive Gold Kaboom! cover of J.J. McCarthy, Rome Odunze, Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love, Micah Parsons or Brock Purdy.
Included in the total checklist is a 200-card Absolute set, as well a 100-card base Red and Blue parallel set and a 100 Rookies Red and Blue set. Considered ultra-rare, Kaboom! inserts can also be pulled.
As of Monday afternoon, a Jared Goff Kaboom! from the calendar had sold for $550 on eBay.
