While stars such as Paul Skenes and Victor Wembanyama continue to surge as two of the most popular players in the hobby, perhaps the biggest winner in the sports card market in recent days has been Jazz Chisholm Jr., who was shipped from the Marlins to the big-market Yankees.
Here’s a glance at the card market and its trending players over the last month, according to Market Movers data.
All cards have sold at least 10 times and have a current average value of $30 and above.
Price percentage risers
- 2017 Bowman Chrome Jazz Chisholm Jr. 1st Prospect Auto PSA 10: +275%
- 2021 Topps Chrome Jazz Chisholm Jr. Refractor PSA 10: +195%
- 2023 Bowman Chrome University Reed Sheppard 1st Base PSA 10: +179%
- 2020 Select Anthony Edwards Concourse Blue Prizm PSA 10: +157%
- 2020 Mosaic Tua Tagovailoa Base PSA 10: +140%
Chisholm Jr. has always had the tools to be one of the most electric players in baseball, but playing for Miami doesn’t move the needle much for collectors.
The hard part changed last week, though, and Chisholm landed with the Yankees in a deadline deal. So far, that move has been exactly what his market needed.
Over the last 365 days, Market Movers has tracked just 689 graded card sales for Chisholm with an average price of $95 — 232 of those have come in the last seven days at an average price of $171.
A relatively cheap player, Chisholm’s most popular card over the last week has been his 2017 Bowman Chrome Prospect Auto PSA 10. Previously trending around $123, that card has jumped to $225 over 45 sales in the last week.
At the low end, his 2021 Topps Chrome Base PSA 10 has sold 13 times in the last seven days while jumping from about $13 to $30.
Trade deadline hype will certainly fade in the coming weeks, but Chisholm might have delayed that some after homering four times in his first four games with the Yankees. Don’t be surprised if his market stays hot if he ends up being the secret sauce New York needed.

Casual collectors always swarm to the top prospects when they get called up — while the savvy hobbyists have been holding long-term — and after a small price bump on key cards following his debut, James Wood’s market is regressing to where we might expect.
The Washington Nationals rookie's most popular card, his 2022 Bowman Chrome Prospects PSA 10, is down 49% over the last month across 123 sales. That card got as high as $60 over the last 30 days, but is trending around $25.
Wood’s 2022 Bowman Sapphire Edition Chrome Prospects Auto PSA 10 is also a big decliner over the last month, dropping 43% to less than $600. At one point, that card had sold for more than $1,000.
The power numbers many expected haven’t quite been there for Wood yet, but it’s fair to assume he’ll figure things out as the season winds down, and he’ll be a player to look for heading into next season. For casual collectors, it might be best to wait until the season ends and snag his key cards well into the offseason.
Dollar amount risers
- 2003 Topps Chrome LeBron James Base PSA 10: +$670
- 2023 Bowman Draft Paul Skenes Chrome DP Auto PSA 10: +$323
- 2023 Prizm Victor Wembanyama Hyper PSA 10: +$300
- 1989 Upper Deck Ken Griffey Jr. Base PSA 10: +$225
- 2016 Upper Deck Auston Matthews Young Guns Base PSA 10: +$179
Skenes just continues to dominate on the field and his cards have risen accordingly — though they have declined some over the last two weeks. Over the last 30 days, however, his graded cards, tracked by Market Movers, are up 20% collectively across over more than 1,700 sales.
Skenes’ key 2023 Bowman Draft Base PSA 10 has been the must-have target for collectors recently, and while it’s dropped 4% in price over the last month, 278 sales over 30 days is truly absurd.
At this point, Skenes has a decent chance to be one of the hobby’s most popular athletes — not just baseball players — and health might be the only thing that slows him down in any capacity.
One thing to monitor long-term is whether or not the Pirates can put a competitive team around Skenes, but it’s certainly possible he’s so impressive and popular (like Mike Trout) the postseason success never really matters.

- 2022 Bowman James Wood Chrome 1st Prospect Auto PSA: -$245

C.J. Stroud was among the most popular players at The National last week in Cleveland, but he still seems to be sliding through the offseason lull.
His graded cards tracked by Market Movers are down 4% collectively over the last 30 days across over 4,200 sales, and his case hits and SSPs have been the major drivers.
Stroud’s 2023 Absolute Kaboom! PSA 10 is down 32% over the last month and is now trending around $3,000 after selling for over $5,200. His 2023 Absolute Explosive PSA 10 has been crushed, too, and has fallen in price 50% to around $1,100 over the last month.
Expected to be one of the hobby’s top targets heading into the NFL season, this period of decline might not last much longer.

- 2023 Prizm Victor Wembanyama Base PSA 10: 738 sales
- 2023 Bowman Draft Paul Skenes Draft PSA 10: 278 sales
- 2023 Bowman U Now Caitlin Clark Base PSA 10: 254 sales
- 2023 Prizm C.J. Stroud Base PSA 10: 243 sales
- 2024 Topps Elly De La Cruz Base PSA 10: 174 sales
Another month goes by, and Wembanyama remains the most purchased player in the sports card market.
Over the last 30 days, Market Movers has tracked more than 9,000 graded card sales for Wembanyama with the next closest active player (Stroud) at just more than 4,200. Wembanyama’s card prices continue to decline after initially surging, but the volume has remained tremendous.
Even beyond sales, collectors are grading Wembanyama cards with such volume that he could end up among the 10 most graded players ever by the end of 2024.
