An all-new trading card set featuring some of the most popular characters and brands from the Disney universe will arrive Wednesday as the first flagship release from Topps in 2025.

Quietly listed to the company website without an official announcement, 2025 Topps Disney Genesis debuted Jan. 1 at noon ET as an online exclusive with characters from brands including Disney, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm.

Product configuration details show each box contains a single five-card pack with cards numbered to 99 or less. Previews of parallels highlighted on the set’s launch page appear to include popular variations such as Blue /75, Gold /50, Orange /25, Red /5 and Black 1/1.

Single boxes retailed for $100, and 10-box cases were priced at $999.99. Cases sold out in less than two minutes.

Prior to release, the product checklist featured a list of all 100 characters color-coded by franchise. According to the checklist, the characters are listed by card number as follows:

  • Star Wars: 1-20
  • Disney: 21-40
  • Pixar: 41-60
  • Marvel: 61-80
  • Marvel: 81-100

According to the checklist, the 40 Marvel characters are broken into two distinct groups. Based on card previews from the set’s launch page, the first 20 characters might be depicted with comic book designs, while the final 20 might appear as live-action appearances from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Popular characters from the franchises include Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Black Panther, Wolverine, Iron Man and Captain America.

The set is Topps’ first in the United States to use Marvel characters since agreeing to an expanded global distribution plan with Disney in September. Topps’ previous deal limited distribution for Pixar and Marvel products to Europe, the Middle East and Africa through Topps.com and local conventions.

The expanded deal followed the abrupt release of Marvel Chrome 2024 as a Topps UK exclusive in August. Prior to the franchise’s launch under the Topps Chrome brand, Marvel trading cards had been mostly associated with trading card manufacturer Upper Deck over the last decade.

Topps Finest X-Men ‘97 is currently scheduled to release in early 2025 as the first U.S.-based, flagship Marvel release under the new agreement.

To date, Topps sets featuring Disney, Pixar and Marvel characters have sold extremely well on the secondary market. In October, the 2023 Disney 100 Topps Chrome Mickey Mouse Superfractor 1/1 PSA 9 sold for $500,000 through online marketplace Alt, a record for any Disney card sold publicly.

According to data tool Card Ladder, the highest price paid for a card from Marvel Chrome 2024 is the $38,430 paid for the Iron Man Superfractor 1/1 PSA 9 at Goldin in November.

The top sale for any modern Star Wars card is the $32,100 paid for the 2015 Star Wars Chrome Mark Hamill Autograph Superfractor 1/1 BGS 9/10 at Goldin in 2023.
