Penny Hardaway's uniform, worn as the character Butch McRae in "Blue Chips," is on the auction block again, this time with the promise of it being photo-matched.
Grey Flannel Auctions owner Michael Russek said Hardaway's jersey and shorts, which sold last summer at the Prop Store for $4,095, has been consigned for an upcoming auction in May. The Western University Dolphins uniform has been photo-matched by Davious Sports to a publicity picture for the movie.
The 1994 movie, which starred Hardaway alongside his then-Orlando Magic teammate Shaquille O'Neal and Nick Nolte, told the tale of the Western University Dolphins, a team that bought its way to the top. The movie didn't fare that well at the box office, pulling in $26 million on a $35 million budget. It later became more of a cult classic and was thought of more positively.
A jersey said to be worn by O'Neal, who played Neon Boudeaux in the film, sold for $1,912 in 2009 at Heritage Auctions.
Tickets to the games where the action was shot, in Frankfort, Ind., frequently pop up in auctions. They sell for about $400 with O'Neal's signature.
