PSA has temporarily paused direct grading submissions from customers in Canada, China and Mexico following a series of United States tariffs that went into effect Tuesday.

Customers in Canada can still make submissions by dropping off or sending cards to the PSA submission center in Halifax, Nova Scotia. PSA is working on a solution to allow customers in China to submit cards directly.

In a statement posted to the PSA website Monday, PSA said customers in Canada, China and Mexico won’t be able to complete direct submission in the online submission center. Customers from those countries who do complete any submissions to the United States will be financially responsible for any tariffs, duties and other taxes incurred by PSA.

Following months of threats, President Donald Trump’s tariffs against Canada and Mexico went into effect Tuesday. Imports from Canada and Mexico will now be taxed at 25% with Canadian energy products subject to 10% import duties, the Associated Press reported.

A 10% tariff on Chinese imports in February increased to 20% on Tuesday. China placed its own 15% tariffs on a number of U.S. farm exports Tuesday.

According to the AP, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Canada will place tariffs on more than $100 billion in American goods.

According to third-party grading tracker GemRate, PSA graded 15.34 million items in 2024, by far the most of the four major grading companies. CGC Cards graded the second-most in 2024 with 2.32 million.

PSA opened its first Canadian submission center in Halifax in 2023 but plans to move to a larger facility in the greater Toronto area in 2025.
